His career also includes five years with the internationally acclaimed Carla Bley Band, collaborations with Bobby McFerrin and Mose Allison, and membership in the innovative New Orleans jazz quartet Astral Project. With more than 30 years of experience, Johnson brings dynamic saxophone playing shaped by jazz fusion, Coltrane, Sun Ra, and collaborations with artists including Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, Delfeayo Marsalis, and Wynton Marsalis. Rankin, a longtime New Orleans favorite and Jazz Fest regular since 1981, blends jazz, classical, folk, blues, and the Great American Songbook through delicate fingerstyle guitar, soulful vocals, and engaging storytelling. Happy Hour Free Concert Series German-born tenor saxophonist Martin Krusche first visited New Orleans in 1995 and reportedly moved to the Crescent City just two weeks later. Though he has maintained ties to New York City and the contemporary jazz scene in the Northeast, New Orleans has remained his musical home. A versatile performer, Krusche has shared the stage with an array of local talents, including trumpeter Nicholas Payton, Iguanas drummer Doug Garrison, Dirty Dozen Brass Band sousaphone player Kirk Joseph, and percussionist Anthony Cuccia. His music reflects a deep connection to the city’s vibrant and ever-evolving jazz scene. Born and raised in New Orleans, Riley began playing drums at age three and later studied music at Southern University before becoming a sought-after collaborator for legends including Ahmad Jamal, George Benson, and Harry Connick Jr.. In addition to his renown as a drummer, Jason is also a respected vibraphonist whose 2018 release "Melody Reimagined '' with his 21st Century Trad Band rose swiftly to the top of the Billboard jazz chart. With a fire in his heart and a passion for the music, his will to swing has never been more resolute.
