Noah Young is a New Orleans-based bassist, composer, and founding member of the acclaimed jazz/funk group Naughty Professor, known for his powerful groove, melodic style, and genre-spanning versatility. Over the past decade, Young has performed, recorded, and toured with artists including The Revivalists, Big Freedia, Marcus King, George Porter Jr., and Ivan Neville, earning multiple OffBeat Magazine “Best Bassist” nominations. In addition to touring internationally with Naughty Professor, Young leads the Noah Young Band, a modern jazz/funk project showcasing his original compositions, and is preparing to release a new album of original fusion music produced by Grammy Award-winning artist Jamison Ross. David Torkanowsky is one of New Orleans’ premier contemporary jazz pianists, composers, arrangers, and producers, celebrated for his versatility across jazz, funk, blues, and rhythm & blues. Born and raised in New Orleans, he comes from a deeply musical family — the son of renowned conductor Werner Torkanowsky and flamenco dancer Theresa Torkanowsky. Mentored by legendary figures including Danny Barker and Ellis Marsalis, Torkanowsky has spent more than five decades mastering his lyrical playing, inventive improvisation, and dynamic collaborations. Throughout his career, Torkanowsky has performed and recorded with an extraordinary list of artists including Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint, Dianne Reeves, George Porter Jr., Zigaboo Modeliste, Stanton Moore, Earl Turbinton, Boney James, and members of the Marsalis family. He was also an original member of the acclaimed modern jazz group Astral Project and has appeared on over 200 recordings. Happy Hour Concert Series* featuring Shawan Rice Trio Shawan Rice is a New Orleans–based guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, and storyteller whose work highlights original compositions alongside reinterpretations of influential repertoire. She performs regularly throughout the city with a rotating lineup of respected musicians, including Donald Ramsey and Chris Senac on bass, as well as drummers Terrence Houston and Rodney Weber, among a broad network of collaborators within the New Orleans music community. Touring for more than a decade across the United States and internationally, she has appeared on major stages including the Congo Square stage at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival and the Jazz Ascona Festival in Switzerland, and has shared bills with artists such as Grace Potter and George Porter Jr.. Her performances range from full-band sets to intimate ensembles and solo appearances, unified by an expressive, emotionally driven approach to live music.
