Gerald Watkins Jr. is an accomplished drummer, percussionist, educator, and mentor originally from Norfolk, Virginia, now based in New Orleans. A graduate of both Norfolk State University and Florida State University, Watkins has built a reputation as one of the most versatile and respected drummers on the New Orleans jazz scene. Known for his dynamic groove, musical sensitivity, and commanding stage presence, he performs extensively both locally and internationally while remaining deeply committed to music education and community mentorship. Throughout his career, Watkins has performed with an impressive roster of acclaimed artists including members of the Marsalis family that includes Delfeayo Marsalis’ Uptown Jazz Orchestra, The New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Eric Benét, and Ledisi. His local performance peers include Matt Lemmler, Trevarri Huff-Boone, Amina Scott, and Max Moran.In addition to his performing career, he has inspired countless young musicians through his work at the The Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, where he continues to nurture the next generation of creative artists. Happy Hour Concert Series* featuring Nayo Jones Experience sponsored by JAZZ FOUNDATION OF AMERICA Nayo Jones (pronounced Nīyō) is a Chicago-born jazz vocalist and classically trained flutist who was raised in a musical family and developed her foundation in jazz under the guidance of her father, William “Doc” Jones. Now based in New Orleans, she is known for her dynamic vocal range and signature blend of jazz standards, soul, and contemporary influences. She leads her own group, The Nayo Jones Experience, while also touring as a featured vocalist with Kermit Ruffins and performing with the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, including on their tribute to Allen Toussaint. Jones has appeared at major festivals including the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, French Quarter Fest, and Satchmo SummerFest, as well as international stages in Europe and across the United States. She has shared the stage with artists such as George Benson, Chris Botti, Rick Braun, and Richard Elliot, and maintains long-running residencies in New Orleans venues including the Hotel Monteleone and the Jazz Playhouse.
