Late Nights at Monks | Collin Shook Trio

Join us for a Late Nights at Monks, featuring the Collin Shook Trio! Collin Shook – Piano James Suter – Bass Daniel Dufour – Drums Collin Shook, native to Dallas, Texas, is a jazz pianist, composer, and founder of Monks Jazz. During high school, he studied instruments from all around the bandstand, moved to Austin in 2007, performed and recorded in Tucson from 2009 to 2013, and finally returned to Austin in 2014. In September 2016, Collin collaborated with the art co-op Topology in East Austin to create Monks Jazz Club, a pop-up listening room concept. Having hosted nearly 100 pop-up concerts in over a dozen venues from 2016-2020, Monks transitioned to a live-streaming format in response to the pandemic, and in 2021 landed a permanent brick and mortar space in the heart of East Austin, where Collin has produced over 600 Monks live-taping concerts. His two albums as a leader (Derivatives 2012 & The Desert 2016) can be found at collinshook.bandcamp.com Please Note: MONKS JAZZ IS NOW A FULL SERVICE BAR. Parker Jazz Club Presents... HAILEY TUCK!

Caught between the dream of an unfettered future in Europe, gleaned from stories she devoured from her Grandmother’s book shop, and her past in Texan Baptist military boarding school, Hailey arrived in Europe twelve years ago feeling like a dragon fly caught in amber. She cut her teeth in Paris at eighteen, buoyed by the same supportive artistic community of her heroes Josephine Baker, Louise Brooke, and Blossom Dearie. A chance encounter with a Countess at eighteen led her to singing in palazzos in Venice, late night costume parties – occasionally scantily clad on a table – and of course underground cabaret venues. Yearning to graduate to the next step, she wrote a fortuitous email to legendary producer Larry Klein, who’s name she found on the back of the CDs of her contemporary heroes, Madeleine Peyroux and Melody Gardot. After reading her jazz manifesto, Larry invited her to contact him, ‘If she was ever in LA”, and in typical obsessive spirit, she immediately jumped on a flight. He championed her forward into a record deal with Sony, and the resulting debut album, “Junk” saw Larry Grammy nominated for Producer Of The Year. Already lauded for her live shows and tipped by Interview, Nylon, People magazine and Marie Claire, and with televised performances alongside Björk, The Breeders, Diva Mahal and Jools Holland, Hailey is on a mission to turn jazz on its head.

Michael Longoria – Drums Brian Donohoe – Keyboard, Saxophone Michael Malone – Saxophone Daniel Durham – Bass Michael Longoria is an Austin-based drummer and percussionist with more than 30 years as a professional touring and studio musician. Born in 1974 to a music educator on the Texas-Mexico border, he grew up immersed in the music and culture of “La Frontera,” which continues to shape his musical identity and approach to rhythm. After moving to Austin in 1989, Michael began touring with Texas music legend Joe "King" Carrasco in 1994. Since then, he has toured internationally and performed or recorded with acclaimed artists including Patty Griffin, Joel Guzman, Stephen Bruton, Amos Lee, Eric Johnson, Emmylou Harris, Buddy Miller, Indigo Girls, Bob Schneider, Marc Ribot, Mestrinho, Tita Lima, Yaniel Matos, Tomas Ramirez, Pete Rodriguez, and many others. A highly versatile, genre-spanning musician, Michael moves fluidly among Jazz, Americana, Hip-Hop, R&B, Neo-Soul, Latin, Afro-Caribbean, and World Music. His recent work reflects that range, performing and recording with artists and projects including Universal Seedz, Atash, Muthabug, JaRon Marshall, Adrian Quesada, Curtis Harding, Magna Carda, Doppel, Michael Malone and others. Michael’s television appearances include Austin City Limits, Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America, and Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Late Nights at Monks | Ross Margitza Trio

Join us for a Late Nights at Monks, featuring the Ross Margitza Trio! Dr. Ross Margitza is a distinguished pianist, trumpeter, composer, arranger, and educator. He resides in Austin, TX where he serves as a Lecturer in Jazz Studies/Jazz Piano at the University of Texas at Austin. Growing up in Detroit, Michigan, he began his musical journey under the guidance of his father and grandfather, both professional pianists. He started playing piano at age six and trumpet at age ten. Inspired by Oscar Peterson's recording of “West Side Story,” Ross pursued a career in jazz. An award-winning pianist, Dr. Margitza clinched first place in the 2024 Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition and second place in the 2009 Phillips Jazz Piano Competition. He has performed alongside acclaimed musicians such as Russell Malone, Jon Faddis, Phil Woods, Patti Austin, Wess "Warmdaddy" Anderson, Roy McCurdy, Antonio Hart, Lynn Roberts, and Christian McBride. His credits also include performances with the Gerald Wilson Orchestra, Detroit Jazz Orchestra, Glenn Miller Orchestra, and Tommy Dorsey Orchestra. Internationally, Ross has performed in Japan, Colombia, the Dominican Republic, Spain, and Canada, as well as major U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., and New York. As an educator, his previous appointments include serving as the Director of Instrumental Music at both Flintridge Preparatory School near Los Angeles and also St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Austin. In 2023, he taught collegiately as the Jazz Piano Instructor at Huston-Tillotson University. He holds a Bachelor of Music from Michigan State University, a Master of Music from Northern Illinois University, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin.
