Scotty Hills is originally from the Canadian prairies but has travelled the world gathering stories and sounds for making music that connects to our human nature, deep in the soul. Candid heartbreak lullabies to soulful songs with a message, all with a gentle reverence for world rhythms. His sound is somewhere between the magic he heard on his grandma's Carpenter records, and the Carter Family radio show his grandpa would yodel to. Mix this with the sophisticated arrangements of his mom's Anita Baker tapes, and his deep love for Chicago Blues. All of these influences produce a harmonic density which glues together his honest, poignant lyrics, and soulful voice. www.imscottyhills.com https://www.imscottyhills.com Scotty Hills is originally from the Canadian prairies but has travelled the world gathering stories and sounds for making music that connects to our human... soul,r&b

Louis Armstrong was once asked what his favorite kind of music was, and his response was simple; “Good music”. Petunia & the Vipers’ sound may not sit comfortably in one certain genre, but “Good Music” describes it well. Hank Williams on acid… Tom Waits meets Elvis at Woody Guthrie’s Hobo junction… Avant-Country night club scene music… One of the best bands in the world today, of any kind… hillbilly-flavoured-swing inflected-ragtime-goodtime-thunderously rolling-one-of-a-kind-you-don’t-want-to-miss-this-sort-of-a-show… A new music that springboards off of music of the past and jumps into the present day, left with only echoes of the past… Something in between 1920’s and steam punk. It’s good for your mind… These are just a few of the words uttered by folks around the globe trying to pin down a description of all that is Petunia & the Vipers. www.instagram.com/petuniaandthevipers https://www.instagram.com/petuniaandthevipers Louis Armstrong was once asked what his favorite kind of music was, and his response was simple; “Good music”. Keith Jarrett's European Quartet was a modern jazz group featuring pianist Keith Jarrett, saxophonist Jan Garbarek, bassist Palle Danielsson, and drummer Jon Christensen, active in the mid-to-late 1970s. Their distinctive sound, a blend of lyrical melody and free improvisation, became synonymous with the aesthetic of the German record label, ECM. It was and continues to be hugely influential to the sound of jazz and creative music. For this concert, pianist Chris Gestrin has put together a quartet featuring some of his great friends and musicians from Vancouver to pay tribute to some of Jarrett's unique and beautiful compositions from this time frame. With Jon Bentley - tenor & soprano sax, Jodi Proznick - acoustic bass, Joe Poole - drums
