D.D. Jackson is a Juno and two-time Emmy-winning (5x Emmy-nominated) composer/producer/ jazz pianist who has recorded 14 albums of mostly original music as leader or co- leader (including two for the major label BMG). He has performed, recorded, and toured around the world with diverse artists such as saxophonist David Murray, drummer Jack DeJohnette, and Questlove and Tariq Trotter of The Roots, and previously composed two jazz-influenced operas, including "Québécité" (based in part on the story of his African American father and Chinese mother). Beyond jazz, he composes for television shows and teaches at LIU Brooklyn, Brooklyn College's Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, and soon at NYU's Screen Scoring faculty. "In Conversin' With My Younger Self, pianist and composer D.D. Jackson returns to Blues Alley with unreleased compositions from the start of his career, including works shaped by his studies with the late Don Pullen, bridging the fire and youthfulness of his early years, reimagined from a more seasoned lens. Jackson is joined by Baltimore mainstays Obasi Akoto on bass and Eric Kennedy on drums."
