Two-time Grammy Award-winning violinist Mads Tolling releases Masters of Jazz Violin, a heartfelt tribute to the jazz violinists who shaped his musical journey. This album features compositions written and associated with jazz violin greats Stéphane Grappelli, Jean-Luc Ponty, Svend Asmussen, Stuff Smith, and others. As a young man, Mads contacted ‘The Fiddling Viking’ Svend Asmussen for lessons, and he ended up receiving much of Svend’s sheet music, including many handwritten arrangements. Mads was later recommended by Jean-Luc Ponty to join Stanley Clarke’s band, and the two have stayed in contact ever since. Joining Mads on his journey are fellow Bay Area world-class musicians Dan Robbins on bass and guitarist Bruce Forman, who performed with both Joe Venuti and Grappelli. Mads Tolling is the recipient of the 2016 DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Award for violin. A former long-time member of Stanley Clarke’s band and the Turtle Island Quartet, Mads also toured for five years with Bob Weir & Wolf Bros. He has performed his violin concertos with the late, great Michael Morgan and The Oakland Symphony, and he leads his own ensemble, Mads Tolling & The Mads Men. His work has been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition and in The Washington Post, and he has performed with musical legends such as Kenny Barron, Ramsey Lewis, Paquito D’Rivera, and Leo Kottke. Personnel: Mads Tolling – violin Bruce Forman – guitar Dan Robbins – bass Quotes: “Mads has the amazing talent and skills that few young musicians can match. His music is both beautiful and refreshing exhibiting his superb mastery of the modern American Jazz music that is rarely seen among his peers.” — Jean-Luc Ponty “With Tolling's honed technique, vigorous attack and engaging brand of swing..." — Mike Joyce, The Washington Post

11-time Grammy Award winner Tony Lindsay brings his rich, soulful voice to Meyhouse Jazz for an evening where soul meets jazz. Best known for his 25 years as the lead vocalist for Santana, Lindsay became part of one of the most celebrated chapters in the band’s history, performing on major recordings and touring with Santana around the world. His voice carries the polish of a world-class performer, but also the warmth, phrasing, and emotional depth of a singer deeply rooted in soul, R&B, and jazz. For this special program, Lindsay presents a powerful selection of soul standards by Ray Charles, Marvin Gaye, and Frankie Beverly, alongside select jazz standards that highlight his range and versatility. From timeless grooves to intimate ballads, the evening showcases what makes him one of America’s great male vocalists: a voice that is expressive, effortless, and unmistakably soulful. He is joined by John R Burr on piano, Dan Robbins on bass, and Michael O’Neill on saxophone. Warm, soulful, and deeply musical, Soul Meets Jazz celebrates the timeless connection between classic soul and jazz, led by a singer whose career has taken him from world stages to the heart of the Bay Area music scene. Join us at Meyhouse Jazz for Kinds of Blue, featuring Mark Murphy Vocal Scholarship honoree and acclaimed jazz vocalist Andrea Claburn with the Michael O’Neill Trio. This program paints in sonic hues of blue, spanning a century of classic swing, bossa nova, and bebop compositions. From St. Louis Blues to Blue Skies to Light Blue, the evening explores the many emotional colors carried through song — from longing and reflection to elegance, warmth, and joy. A distinctive voice in the Bay Area jazz scene, Claburn is known for her expressive phrasing, warm tone, and thoughtful approach to storytelling through song. Her debut album Nightshade was named to several 2017 year-end Top 10 jazz album lists, further establishing her as a vocalist of depth and artistry. With Claburn’s expressive voice and the Michael O’Neill Trio’s refined musicality, Kinds of Blue offers an intimate and beautifully shaped journey through jazz repertoire, where the idea of “blue” becomes more than a color — it becomes a mood, a memory, and a sound.
