The GSJO is proud to present “ 100 Years of Trane ”. John William Coltrane (September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967) was an iconic American jazz saxophonist, bandleader, and composer. A towering figure in 20th century music, he helped to shape bebop, modal jazz, and free jazz. His career was defined by relentless innovation and deep spirituality, culminating in masterworks like Giant Steps and A Love Supreme. The Orchestra will feature both original arrangements of some of John Coltrane ‘s greatest works and pieces inspired by the maestro. The band will also feature a special playing of A Love Supreme , masterfully arranged by trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. Formed mid-way through 2025, the GSJO has ventured to create quality music, while still creating an inclusive and safe space for its musicians. The GSJO boasts an impressive range of repertoire, spanning early swing music to modern day big band compositions and arrangements, including original compositions and arrangements by members of the orchestra.
