PLS NOTE: DOORS OPEN 6PM FOR A 6.30PM SHOWTIME (SHOW DURATION IS 6.30PM-8.10PM) The Music of Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus represent some of the most important developments in the jazz idiom, with Oscar Bruten’s original arrangements reimagining their works for the modern era. This concert will feature classic Monk and Mingus themes, with a number of styles; songs to dance to, intimate ballads and sophisticated masterpieces. Oscar Bruten’s Septet features some of the brightest upcoming minds in the Melbourne music scene. The ensemble aims to explore the last 100 years of jazz tradition, allowing the listeners to experience the rich history of jazz music. Each set of music features brand new arrangements by Oscar Bruten, aiming to transform these styles, blending the tradition of jazz music with modern language and styles. PLS NOTE: DOORS OPEN AT 7PM FOR A 7.30PM SHOWTIME (SHOW DURATION IS 7.30PM-9.30PM) The Daryl McKenzie Jazz Orchestra began in the early 80’s under the direction of Graeme Lyall and after a number of name changes, Daryl McKenzie has directed the band, which have been critically acclaimed for their superb musicianship and polished professionalism. During the 90’s as the house band for the Nine Network’s “Hey Hey It’s Saturday”, Daryl's band performed with international artists such as Tom Jones, Joe Cocker, Barry Manilow, Bonnie Raitt, Trisha Yearwood, BB King and Randy Crawford; as well as Australian artists such as Tina Arena, Human Nature, Tommy Emmanuel and James Morrison. The band has toured internationally to the USA and Malaysia and also performed to large concert audiences in Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Sydney, Gold Coast and was featured at the North Queensland Jazz Festival in Mackay, Jazz in the Vineyards at the Morning Star Estate, The Melbourne International Brass Festival (with Bill Watrous) and the Castlemaine State Festival.
