The Lilypad Jazz Jam is open to instrumentalists of all levels, we only ask that you come prepared to play at least one or two well known Jazz Standards in the commonly played key. And of course listeners are welcome to come and enjoy the music these spontaneously arranged ensembles will create! Our host will be working with players to make sure everyone gets a chance to get on stage and play something they're comfortable with. We'll have a drum kit, piano, upright bass and guitar/bass amplifiers on the back line. Our stage hosts some of the heaviest players on the planet, come down and catch the vibe! We have Nic Adams hosting and leading the band to get the night started. Come early, you won't want to miss their performance! Nic Adams is a multi-instrumentalist, performer, composer, educator, and luthier based in Boston, MA. Specializing in saxophone, drums, guitar, bass, and north Asian folk music, their music pulls from a long list of traditions, from John Coltrane to punk rock and Tuvan throat singing. With this wide array of influences, Nic seeks to create music that synthesizes many different musical points into a cohesive and unique form. Finding common grounds among musical cultures and using them as jumping-off points for new compositions or improvisations is at the core of Nic’s work. Nic is currently pursuing a Master’s at Longy School of Music, gigs in the greater Boston area, and spends their free time building hybrid Tuvan/western traditional instruments. The Andy Voelker Trio hosts the after hours jam session with a rotating rhythm section of local greats such as Jef Charland, Steve Langone, Keala Kaumeheiwa, Austin McMahon, Matt Stavrakas, Dave Brophy, and more. Saxophonist improviser and composer Andy Voelker has been aptly called a ”Lifer” in the world of jazz. His dedication to the roots of jazz, the real time application of past and present jazz styles, and the furthering of jazz as an art form remain Andy’s top priorities. Having grown up on the New Jersey shore surrounded by a family full of music lovers, artists, and writers Andy developed early appreciation for what is “good music”. Andy took up the saxophone in grade school band and never looked back. Moving to Boston to attend Berklee College of music, Andy stayed in Boston and continued his education on the bandstand. Andy was a pivotal member of the Matt Murphy’s Music in Brookline having both co-lead the weekly jam session and lead his own original groups at Matts - during the heyday of one of Boston’s most notable music scenes. Presently Andy is playing and recording with Clear Audience – a group he co-leads with his cohorts from the Murphy’s days. Andy is staying busy as one of Boston’s real deal jazz Saxophonists, hard at work performing around the greater Boston areas music venues bringing his forward thinking, soulful sound, and thoughtful improvisations to the present day music appreciators. Adam Janjigian, piano Born and raised in Boston, Adam Janjigian began studying music privately at the age of five; he continued private study until graduating with a degree in jazz piano from the University of Maryland. At age 25, Adam was given the opportunity to work for Carnival Corporation’s Cunard Line as a member of the Queen Victoria’s ballroom dance orchestra, and subsequently took his talents to Princess Cruises, where he was the house-band pianist on five different ships before returning to Boston. By the time he finished his time on cruise ships, he travelled to over 60 countries all across the globe, including Greenland, Australia, Thailand, Hong Kong and India. Adam now works full time in software sales, and when not behind the desk, he performs regularly all over the Boston area at clubs, bars, restaurants, and private events, and can even be seen behind the organ at Boston College Ice Hockey games. The Jazz Vocal Jam Session takes place the 1st & 3rd Sundays of each month from 3pm-6pm. A featured vocalist will start each session before inviting other vocalists to join the house band. There will be a physical sign-up sheet which will be first come, first serve. We appreciate if you purchase something to help the restaurant out for bringing all of this great jazz to us! This week the featured singer will be Fiona McCall. Fiona McCall is a UK singer-songwriter based between the UK and Boston, where she studies at Berklee College of Music. About A blast of a performance featuring some of pianist/composer Brian Friedland’s closest collaborators from the last 19 years. They will dive into a set of Brian's original music before opening up the floor for a jam session focused on his most fun-to-play original tunes. It’s going to be a wonderful night of community and creativity! Jazz Sundays at the Square Root brings together Boston’s best jazz artists in an intimate restaurant setting for performances and themed jams. Cover $10-20 at the door pays the musicians. $5 discount for musicians on jam nights.

Ehud Ettun, bass Bassist Ehud Ettun has performed in venues ranging from Blue Note, New York, to Kennedy Center in Washington DC, and concerts and festivals in Europe, North America South America and Asia. In recent years, Ehud started developing his own trio sound having had toured the world performing in New York, Toronto, Boston, Poland, Germany, Serbia, South Korea and more. The trio is creating music that is influenced a lot by modern jazz and continues the tradition of musicians like Chick Corea, Carla Bley, Brad Mehldau, Ray Brown, Charlie Haden and others.
