Lawrence "Weas" Newton : The Soul of Jazz | Thursday June 11 6:30PM & 9:00PM | presented by Unscripted Jazz June 11, 2026 until June 11, 2026 Lawrence "Weas" Newton was born and raised in the heart of North Philadelphia. His passion for music has been evident since he was a child. Lawrence’s talent for singing landed him his first professional paid event at only 15 years old. From there, Lawrence earned the opportunity to perform advertising Jingles for Levin’s Furniture store, Pepsi Co, and other local Philadelphia area stores. As his vocal acumen continued to bloom, he shared the stage with legends such as; Harold Melvin, Patti LaBelle, Grover Washington, Eugene Wilde, Taj Mahal, Pink, Bernie Worrell, Jamaaladeen Tacuma, Melba Moore, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Patti Austin, Urban Guerilla Orchestra aka “UGO”. She has graced the stage at historic venues such as Blues Alley, DAR Constitution Hall, and The Warner Theatre in Washington, DC respectively and the legendary Apollo Theatre in New York City. She has honored our country on many occasions with the National Anthem at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and the Verizon Center in Washington, DC for NBA teams, the Washington Mystics and the Washington Wizards.
