Live Jazz in New York

The Reel Jazz Series continues on Sunday, May 31, with a special screening of Midnight in Paris at Cinema Arts Centre, followed by a live performance by internationally acclaimed chromatic harmonica artist Yvonnick Prené. Inspired by the Paris jazz tradition of Django Reinhardt, the evening celebrates the music, artistry, and creative spirit of 1920s and 30s Paris through film and live performance. Following the screening, Prené will perform selections connected to his latest album, Un Harmonica pour Django, bringing the timeless sound of hot club jazz to life. Presented by Cinema Arts Centre and Jazz at the Barn, Reel Jazz explores the connection between jazz and cinema through unforgettable screenings and live performances.

Vocalist and composer Annie Chen, will bring her trio to Conklin Barn in Huntington, on June 14th at 3pm. The ensemble offers audiences a concert experience centered on connection, artistry, and live musical conversation. Jazz at the Barn has become a distinctive destination for live jazz on Long Island, presenting both acclaimed and emerging artists in a warm, acoustically rich environment where audiences can experience music up close. Unlike traditional restaurant or club settings, the Barn emphasizes focused listening, creating space for musicians and audiences to fully engage with the performance.

The Reel Jazz Series, the collaboration between Cinema Arts Centre and Jazz at the Barn, continues with a special screening of the acclaimed documentary The Girls in the Band paired with a live performance by DANICA, an all-women jazz ensemble led by vocalist Audrey Silver with guitarist Alicyn Yaffee and pianist Hyuna Park. The Girls in the Band highlights the groundbreaking female jazz and big band musicians whose contributions helped shape American music while often going unrecognized. Through archival footage and personal interviews, the film brings these important stories back into the spotlight. Following the screening, Danica will perform a soulful live set celebrating the artistry, creativity, and enduring influence of women in jazz.
