About Welf Dorr
Dorr’s official biography traces his path from Munich and Berklee College of Music to New York, where he moved in 1995. It documents work across the city with improvisers and ensemble leaders as well as appearances at the Vision Festival, Celebrate Brooklyn, Nublu, and Jazz at Lincoln Center.[1]
His two principal leader projects have different ensemble shapes. Welf Dorr Unit joins free-jazz spontaneity with funk and rock, while the six-piece Underground Horns draws on brass-band traditions, hip-hop, African rhythms, and other world-music sources.[1][2]
The 2024 album So Far So Good grew from original compositions developed during a weekly engagement at the Keep in Brooklyn. The recording features Dorr with guitarist Elias Meister, bassist Dmitry Ishenko, and drummer Kenny Wollesen.[1]
