THE NEW YORK OUD FESTIVAL presents: ALBERT AGHA Day 1 of the New York Oud festival will feature oudist Albert Agha. Seating is limited, first-come first-served. This program will bring together classical Arab repertoire, featuring works from Egyptian and Syrian traditions, alongside original compositions rooted in classical forms, performed through voice and oud. It includes the premiere of a new instrumental work that explores musical bridges between the Middle East and Southeast Asia, emerging from Agha’s research into the integration of modal systems across cultural traditions. Albert Nasser Agha - Oud & Vocals Insia Malik - Violin Gabe Lavin - Buzuq Alber Basee l - percussion Albert Nasser Agha is an ethnomusicologist, music educator, and director. He holds a Ph.D. in Ethnomusicology from the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music, where he studied under the distinguished composer and scholar A. J. Racy. Originally from Aleppo, Dr. Agha is both a scholar and performer whose work bridges rigorous academic inquiry with deeply embodied musical practice. A vocalist and oudist, he grounds his scholarship in lived experience. An accomplished interpreter of the classical Arab repertoire, Dr. Agha has performed at leading cultural institutions and international stages across North America and the Middle East, with performances characterized by expressive depth and historical nuance. The New York Oud Festival is a multi-day, multi-venue music festival that displays the oud and its versatility as it exists in New York's diverse musical culture. John Violinist John Violinist John Violinist is an internationally recognized violinist whose performances bridge contemporary R&B, soul and modern instrumental artistry. Known for his dynamic stage presence and crowd engaging style, John has built a reputation for delivering concerts that are both musically rich and visually captivating. He has performed for high-profile audiences, including appearances before Tom Werner, Anthony Anderson, Queen Latifah, Valerie Simpson and Simone Biles. John has been featured on Talk of the Table with Gayle King, and his work has aired on VH1, BET, and MTV. In recognition of his creative influence, John was selected for Tik Tok's first 100 Black Creatives program and now serves as a partner with the platform. He had built a powerful online presence, amassing more than 50 million views across social media. His collaborations include projects with Paramount and JBL Pro. John has been invited to perform at signature cultural events such as the National NAACP Gala in Boston, the Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony at the Connecticut State Capitol, the Juneteenth Freedom Foundation Festival in Washington, DC and the BET Soul Train Music Awards 50th Anniversary Soul Luncheon. New York, NY — On Sunday, May 31, 2026 at 7pm, the adventurous new music presenting organization Composers Concordance returns to Ki Smith Gallery to present Missing Link Ensemble. A formidable set of brazen contemporary compositions, scored for a unique combination of instruments and electronics, is performed by the superb trio of Eric Schultz - bass clarinet, Eddy Malave - viola, and Javier Oviedo - saxophone. Additionally, the ensemble's dynamic violinist Lynn Bechtold will perform several works. Featured on the program is an impressive group of composers hailing from Argentina, Brazil, Serbia, and the U.S., including Lynn Bechtold, Natasha Bogojevic, Dan Cooper, Harry Crowl, Tiago Gati, Kino Lopes, Milica Paranosic, Gene Pritsker, Emiliano Revert, Eric Schultz, and Gabi Yaya.
