Doors 7:45 PM, Music 8:30 PM - 2 set(s) of music Line-up: Kaidi Akinnibi - Tenor Saxophone Finn Carter - Piano Joe MacLaren - Double Bass Blake Cascoe - Drums About Part of Finn Carter’s monthly residency at the Vortex showcasing a new project each month. This month, he starts his residency with his quartet, who have played to a sold-out Vortex crowd on multiple occasions. Led by pianist and composer Finn Carter, the members of this group all approach improvising from the same perspective: trying to serve the music and remove the ego from improvising. With credits including Loyle Carner, Olivia Dean, Sampha and Tom Misch, these in-demand players are all technically virtuosic, but the music they create together is more than that; it is sensitive, emotive and synergistic. “I’d be amazed if Londoner Carter doesn’t become the next most in-demand UK jazz pianist on the basis of this recording alone” – Stephen Graham, Marlbank “A fabulously talented piano player” – Jamie Cullum, BBC Radio 2 “This is his first solo release and it’s terrific…Finn has an ear for melody and an ability to leave space and build mood.” – Eddie Myer, Jazzwise “Carter's sensitive, mature and fluent piano is backed by some stellar performances, making this a remarkable debut” – Neil Duggan, All About Jazz “I have seen many established and renowned acts perform at Ronnie Scott’s since 1990 and never have I been so impressed” – DJ Fitzroy, Soul Survivors Magazine

Doors 7:45 PM, Music 8:30 PM - 2 sets of music Line-up: Leif Kaner-Lidström - Piano Hugo Piper - Bass guitar Kaidi Akinnibi - Saxophone Jack Robson - Drum kit About: Leif Kaner-Lidströms style has been described as a cinematic odyssey of music, inspired at its roots by classical form and melody consisting of through-composed compositions, where folk-like harmony and soulful rhythm shine through a veil of intricate and technically challenging virtuosity. Leif Kaner-Lidström is a composer and pianist from South East London. Born into a musical family, Leif began playing piano at 7 and wrote his first piece of music at 10. Since then his music has had the support of the likes of Elton John, Craig Charles, Gilles Peterson, Jamz Supernova, Moses Boyd and Soweto Kinch on National and International Radio. He is known as a classical pianist, most recently through his album ‘Swans’ with his cellist father on Hyperion Records, and performing around the world with stars in that field such as Jess Gillam or Anne Sofie von Otter. On the other hand he goes by the alias Erik Sigurd, with a whole catalogue of solo piano music that has garnered millions of streams worldwide. Leif is a member of the boundary-pushing Levitation Orchestra, known for exploring new frontiers in jazz through collective composition, with their third studio album releasing later this year on 5db Records. His debut vinyl under the pseudonym Eriksson Kaner, Ithaca, was a collaboration with Sacha Create, and feature luminaries such as Kaidi Akinnibi, James Akers, and Rudi Creswick, while his sophomore release “The Purpose” features James Mollison of Ezra Collective, and Alex Cosmo Blake. Both records have been released through the label he founded with prominent South London producer Mom Tudie, Lordship Loft Recordings. [embed]https://youtu.be/7y5RF65jEcQ?si=fJ9sRoi3eN-UFEIn[/embed]
