Larry Vuckovich: Tenor Madness – Honoring Sonny Rollins

Meyhouse Jazz Palo Alto in Palo Alto, South Bay.

About

Sonny Rollins is a tenor saxophone giant who came up in the modern jazz era. Sonny creatively incorporated the original bebop saxophone style invented by alto saxophonist Charlie Parker and transferred it to tenor saxophone. John Coltrane, the other modern-era tenor giant, followed Sonny's footsteps and recorded with him an exciting duet on the selection “Tenor Madness”—the only time they played together in the studio. Sonny Rollins recorded earlier with Miles Davis, and the two of them formed a close musical bond. This evening's music will be something to be remembered. Outstanding New York saxophonist Steve Heckman, who knows closely and will interpret the music of Sonny Rollins, will be accompanied by the powerful Larry Vuckovich Trio, including Doug Miller on bass and Sylvia Cuenca on drums.
