UMAMI JAZZ FUSION is a dynamic six-piece ensemble serving up a rich palette of savory tones, earthy grooves, and artisanal rhythms. Rooted in the golden era of jazz fusion and seasoned with inventive originals, their sound is both nostalgic and refreshingly bold. The group is the creative vision of trumpeter John Sakura (Tamaraw, Full Circle, Type A!), whose melodic sensibilities anchor the band’s flavorful repertoire. The rhythm section is a powerhouse: Dave Austin (Michael Powers, Lee Oskar, DoctorfunK) drives the pulse on drums, joined by the deep funk of bassist Jim Cliff (Richard Marx, Roger Fisher, DoctorfunK) and the expressive guitar work of Leonard Berman (Tamaraw, Full Circle, DoctorfunK). Rounding out the lineup are two seasoned Seattle stalwarts: Bruce Laven (Duffy Bishop, The Squirrels, Paul Green) brings soulful vocals and lush keyboard textures, while Scott Adams (Heart, Spike and the Impalers, Type A!) delivers soaring saxophone lines that elevate the ensemble’s sonic tapestry.
