One of the most acclaimed tenor saxophonists of his generation, Alexander has been a leading voice in modern jazz since emerging on the scene in the early 1990s. Known for his powerful sound, deep command of the bebop tradition, and highly expressive improvising, he has performed and recorded with many of the foremost figures in jazz, including Pat Martino, Horace Silver, McCoy Tyner, George Coleman, Freddie Cole, and the acclaimed cooperative sextet One for All. His longtime musical relationships with Chestnut, Reeves, and Allen bring an extraordinary depth of experience and chemistry to this new quartet. Alexander’s new album, Fifth Quadrant , his first as a leader for Smoke Sessions, is this quartet's first recording. It features Alexander’s new compositions augmented by some modern classics while showcasing all four musicians' shared commitment to melody and swing. All About Jazz calls Alexander “one of the more emotive and resourceful improvisers on the scene,” while National Public Radio has hailed him as “one of the finest bebop saxophonists in the world.”
