We are delighted to feature guitarist, composer, and bandleader Alex Heffron leading an all-star quartet for a special one-time homecoming performance. Brooklyn-based jazz guitarist Alex Heffron has performed with Big Gigantic, Veronica Swift, The Colorado Symphony, as well as performances at the Kennedy Center and NPR’s Tiny Desk series. Alex has released two albums as a leader “ Looking Out ” and “ Avoidance ,”. These albums that show his talent for blending the traditional and contemporary jazz art forms. He holds a degree in Jazz Guitar from the University of Colorado Boulder and continues to evolve his unique sound in jazz. Heffron will be joined by Remy Le Boeuf (saxophone), Seth Lewis (bass), and Paul Romaine (drums).
We are delighted to welcome one Colorado's most celebrated jazz musicians, Eric Gunnison and his incredible trio ( Mark Simon - bass, Paul Romaine - drums) back to Nocturne for two special Wednesday nights in July. For these performances, Eric and company will be performing select tunes from his book of highly acclamined original works. Eric Gunnison was raised in Buffalo, NY and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating with a BA in music composition in 1979. He lives in Denver where he has been a mainstay in the music scene for two decades. Eric performs the world over and has appeared in concert with Ron Miles, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Phil Woods, Bobby Shew, Chris Potter, Christian McBride, and Eddie Gomez to name a few. Many of Eric's early career highlights include his time serving as a pianist and music director to the great Carmen McRae. Since 1991 Gunnison has also been the pianist and a composer/arranger for the Denver super-group Convergence. Gunnison recently retired from his long held position at The University of Denver’s Lamont School Of Music and is now exclusively a performer.
