About Christopher Brown
Portland Jazz Composers Ensemble identifies Brown as a Portland-born drummer, composer, and bandleader. Its biography traces his military music service, jazz-performance degrees, university teaching, thirteen years in the New York area, and return to Portland in 2012.[1]
After returning, Brown established a quartet with alto saxophonist John Nastos, pianist Greg Goebel, and bassist Garrett Baxter. PJCE documents a sustained local performance practice and identifies education and bandleading as central parts of his work; PDX Jazz’s profile expands on his approach to connecting jazz and practical leadership.[1][3]
Sole City, released by PJCE Records in 2025, presents eight Brown compositions and his arrangement of Body and Soul. The label’s Bandcamp provides the complete album, personnel, writing credits, and recording history from sessions at Portland’s Hallowed Halls.[1][2]

PJCE dates Brown’s return to his hometown to 2012 and documents the quartet work that followed.[1]
