Jon Faddis

SUNY Purchase traces Faddis from Oakland and early trumpet study through Lionel Hampton's band and the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra, where he became lead trumpeter. The faculty biography then follows his New York studio work, recordings with Charles Mingus and Dizzy Gillespie, and mid-1980s turn toward his own recording career.[1]

Faddis's work as a conductor and bandleader includes the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, the Dizzy Gillespie 70th Birthday Big Band, and the Jon Faddis Jazz Orchestra of New York. His leader catalog includes Into the Faddisphere, Hornucopia, Remembrances, and Teranga, while Schilke documents the same career from the perspective of his trumpet practice and education work.[1][2]
