About Eddie Henderson
The Cookers' official biography traces Henderson's trumpet study in San Francisco, encouragement from Miles Davis, and the period when he balanced medicine with music. It identifies his first major jazz exposure in Herbie Hancock's Mwandishi sextet from 1969 through 1973.[1]
After Mwandishi, Henderson worked with Pharoah Sanders, Norman Connors, Art Blakey, and his own groups. Smoke Sessions' artist-authorized catalog carries that leader history forward through Be Cool, Shuffle and Deal, and Witness to History, a 2023 recording made fifty years after his debut album.[1][2][3][4]
