About Danilo Pérez

Pérez's official biography traces his musical foundation in Panama, composition studies at Berklee, and early professional work with Dizzy Gillespie's United Nations Orchestra. His leader music combines jazz with Panamanian traditions, Latin American folk sources, West African rhythm, and chamber-scale writing.[1]

In 2000 Pérez joined Wayne Shorter's quartet with John Patitucci and Brian Blade. His own projects extend from a trio and the co-led Children of the Light to the Global Messengers, while his educational and cultural work includes the Berklee Global Jazz Institute and Panama Jazz Festival.[1][3]
