Markus Rutz & Third Coast Sounds @ The Green Mill

Green Mill Cocktail Lounge in Chicago.

About

We are at the Green Mill in Uptown, Chicago for a performance series called the Chicago Composers Collective! Sunday August 23rd is a performance. Two bands play from 4 - 6 pm. The band Folkus is first up and we play the second slot from 5 - 6 pm as Third Coast Sounds. I have six new tunes and each was written just this calendar year. One of these tunes was written specifically for this occasion and another that I wrote is titled “How Do I Say This…?”. which is on of my favorite expressions somebody in the family used to say from time to time. BIO Chicago based Markus Rutz is known for his blues-inflected, soulful trumpet voice and warm, gorgeous tone, earning favorable accolades and radio attention both nationally and internationally. As a composer, Rutz brings a broad range of writing experience and a diverse palette of sounds to his recordings. His most recent release, Many Moons, marks the ninth album from the well-regarded trumpeter and composer, following Storybook (2023) and Penumbra (2024). The album features original music performed in small-group settings with contemporaries from the Chicago music scene. The ensemble sound recalls Rutz’s earlier Blueprints project, expanded through deeper grooves, broader stylistic reach, and increased compositional nuance. Notable recognition has included national exposure on NPR’s Morning Edition & Grammy nomination consideration for music from Blueprints.
