Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue at San Jose Jazz Summer Fest

San Jose Jazz in San Jose.

About

Few artists embody the heart and soul of their city like Trombone Shorty. The most recognizable ambassador for New Orleans music today, Troy Andrews first appeared at Jazz Fest at age four, performing impromptu with Bo Diddley. He has never stopped rising, including a memorable Summer Fest set in 2011 that is still being talked about. By six he was leading his own brass band. By his early twenties he was releasing critically acclaimed, chart-topping albums and performing everywhere from the White House to Madison Square Garden to the 2025 Super Bowl. Along the way he toured with Jeff Beck and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, played Coachella and Lollapalooza, earned a Grammy Award and collaborated with Pharrell, Bruno Mars, Jon Batiste, Lenny Kravitz and Ringo Starr, among many others. In 2011 he launched the Trombone Shorty Foundation, supporting youth music education in New Orleans and beyond, and has since released two children’s books, the first earning the prestigious Caldecott Honor. At home, he leads a beloved annual Mardi Gras parade atop a giant float crafted in his likeness; hosts the Treme Threauxdown shows, which have drawn guests including Usher, Nick Jonas, Mavis Staples and Leon Bridges; and has taken over Jazz Fest’s hallowed final set. His 2022 album Lifted, recorded live at his own Buckjump Studio, bottles the explosive power of his transcendent stage show: raw, raucous, joyful and steeped in the magic of New Orleans.
