Plant People is Fort’s chamber jazz meets free-improvisation group, bringing together some of the most exciting improvisers in New York. The compositions are inspired by the writings of authors such as botanist and writer Robin Wall Kimmerer, exploring themes of nature, connection, and what we can learn from the living world. Plant People is: Noa Fort – voice and compositions; Sara Schoenbeck – bassoon; Mike McGinnis - bass clarinet; Anders Nilsson – guitar; Satoshi Takeishi – drums. Noa Fort is a vocalist, pianist, composer, improviser, and music therapist. As a bandleader, Fort has released several albums and performed at renowned venues including Roulette Intermedium, Dizzy’s Club, and the Kennedy Center, as well as at festivals such as the DC Jazz Festival, Vicenza Jazz, BRIC Jazz Festival, and Red Sea Jazz Festival. She has collaborated with an impressive range of artists, including William Parker, Mat Maneri, Chad Taylor, Satoshi Takeishi, and Thomas Morgan. Fort is a recipient of Brooklyn Arts Council grants and has created free concert series throughout Brooklyn, including performances in a transitional home for unhoused people and community gardens. Fort is a licensed creative arts therapist and board-certified music therapist, and is faculty in the NYU Music Therapy program and at the Roc Nation School at Long Island University. Join us at Rizzoli for an evening of live music, creative exploration, and intimate musical encounters with one of Brooklyn’s distinctive voices in contemporary music. Rizzoli Music Aperitivo - The Concept From Francis Scott Fitzgerald to Jack Kerouac, from Toni Morrison to James Baldwin, from Philip Michael Ondaatje to Geoff Dyer, from Julio Cortazar to Boris Vian, from Amiri Baraka and Ishmael Reed to Jayne Cortez, the list of international writers and poets inspired or intrigued by jazz and other musical genres goes on. In both name and practice, Field Blend Selections celebrates agricultural traditions and diversity. The name is an homage to the nineteenth-century immigrants who co-planted an assortment of grape varieties in vineyards throughout the United States, many of which survive today. Alongside their vines, they often co-planted other crops, including fruits, grains, and legumes. This approach of co-mingling various plantings to achieve balance in the vineyards is now referred to as polyculture, and it is widely recognized as one of the best methods for naturally enriching soils and reducing disease. Polyculture, by replicating nature’s diverse ecosystems, produces healthier fruit without the necessity of artificial herbicides or pesticides
