Looking for Brass, Woodwinds and Guitarists The Helen K. Schwartz Advanced Study Jazz Ensemble and Wheeler Pre-Advanced Study Jazz Ensemble at Settlement Music School, both coached by world-renowned jazz vibraphonist, Tony Miceli are holding live auditions for the 2025-2026 ensembles on June 9th from 6pm to 8pm. All students who are accepted into the ensemble receive a full tuition waver of $1555.00. Whenever we schedule performances, we work with all students to make sure that they can honor their existing school and extracurricular musical ensemble commitments. Both the Schwartz and Wheeler ensembles provide an immersive small jazz ensemble experience with a focus on improvisation and composition. The ensembles have worked with recent guest clinicians who include Orrin Evans, Larry McKenna, John Swana, Mike Boone, and more. Additionally, the groups perform frequently throughout the greater Philadelphia region. Recent performances have included playing pre-concert for the Philly Pops at the Kimmel Center, Jamey's House of Music, CBS News, the grand re-opening of the Parkway Central Branch of the Free Library of Philadelphia, Temple Performing Arts Center, Chris' Jazz Café, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Chairman's Dinner, and more. Founded in 1908, Settlement Music School is one of the oldest and largest Community Schools of the Arts in the United States with the mission of providing accessible arts education for all. The school's alumni include Christian McBride, Kevin Eubanks, Orrin Evans, Chubby Checker, Questlove, and more. Recent alumni from our Schwartz Advanced Study Jazz Ensemble have been accepted at the Manhattan School of Music, Eastman, University of Miami, Berklee College of Music, Temple University, and University of the Arts. A current member of the Schwartz Ensemble won the Essentially Ellington Student Composition contest at Jazz at Lincoln Center. Interested students should to the following: 1.
