Feldman Geospatial will present ALEX ALVEAR & MANGO BLUE on Saturday, August 1st at Boston's cool brewery and taproom, Long Live Roxbury. Mango Blue is performing in support of Mass. United for Venezuela. "We are hoping our alliance with Mass. United for Venezuela will help," says bandleader, bassist, singer and composer Alex Alvear. When Alex's Mango Blue returns on August 1, it's likely that the entire Long Live Roxbury will turn into one big dance party since it's a Saturday night and also since Boston has many Mango Blue fans who'll be ready to party. Here is the band: Alex Alvear, bass, vocals Manolo Mairena, percussion David Rivera, drums, vocals Gonzalo Grau, keyboards, vocals Jared Sims, sax Jonathan Suazo, sax David Rosado, percussion In 1996, Alvear ventured into an original music project and founded the group Alex Alvear & Mango Blue, a band that skillfully incorporates elements of jazz, R&B, and funk, fusing them with traditional Afro-Latin music. Two albums were released by this band, Mango in 2011 and Immigrant Blues in 2001. Alex Alvear has also been an active promoter and producer of Latin American arts and culture internationally. His work at Boston’s Villa Victoria Center for the Arts stands out, where for nearly twenty years, he was actively involved as a key player in the development of cultural programs focused on promoting Latin music and culture in Boston. In his quest to spread his culture, he created Manguito (1997), a variation of Mango Blue, which, for over fifteen years, worked to develop new audiences and promote Latin culture through educational programs for schools and universities as a member of Young Audiences of Massachusetts. Nominated for the Boston Music Awards, winner of The Boston Phoenix Music Award in the category of "Best World Music Group" in 2002, and nominated for "The Best of Boston" by the newspaper El Planeta in 2009, Alvear's accolades place him as one of Ecuador's most relevant and internationally recognized figures. He participated on the album Paquito D'Rivera Presenta a Las Hermanas Márquez, which was nominated for a Grammy® Award in 2005 and on Frutero Moderno, a project with Gonzalo Grau and La Clave Secreta, also nominated for a Grammy® in 2009. Alvear has produced five of his own productions and participated in more than 30 productions with various artists from around the world. In 2015, he was a speaker at TedXQuito. In 2018, he was commissioned to be part of the "Postcards to Space" project, which involved sending postcards from children in schools and hospitals around the world to NASA's space station in audiovisual format.
