Kreeger Museum Summer Jazz Celebration
The Kreeger Museum in Washington, Berkley.
About
The Kreeger Museum presents its sixth annual Summer Jazz Celebration, featuring the Simone Baron Trio and the Elijah Jamal Balbed Quartet. Accordionist and pianist Simone Baron, who splits her time between the DMV and New York, writes music that is “ego-less, genre agnostic and without expectations” as CapitalBop’s Jackson Sinnenberg wrote about her in JazzTimes. Her works often blend and blur and multitude of musical traditions into something greater than the sum of its parts, while still maintaining the beauty of the individual influences. Saxophonist Elijah Jamal Balbed was born and raised in Silver Spring and is a consummate student of the D.C. music scene: He’s equally comfortable blowing some burnished, buoyant hard-bop as he is grooving in the pocket of a go-go band. He can often be found leading groups of some of the other younger statesman of D.C. jazz through originals and standards that swing just right.
