About

Inspired by legendary venues like New York’s Blue Note, London’s Ronnie Scott's we introduce Amsterdam’s Contra: the place to enjoy intimate jazz concerts from your dinner table. A chef's menu is served, accompanied by our wide selection of wines. To keep the balance between the listening experience and sharing the moment, the concert consists of 3 sets of 35-40 minutes, each followed by a break to enjoy your table, your company, and the atmosphere. This edition we welcome the Veerle van der Wal trio! Veerle van der Wal (20 years old) is a born and raised double bass player from Amsterdam. She’s going in to her last year of the Conservatory of Amsterdam and has been very active in the jazz scene in the Netherlands and further. Veerle is widely scene as one of the biggest Dutch talents in her generation and, despite her young age, has already shared the stage with many renowned musicians like Benjamin Herman, Timothy Banchet, Yoran Vroom, John Engels and more. This time she invites her two good friends Florian Marka (drums) and Lezaam Beets (trombone) for a night full of traditional jazz with a modern approach.
