Future of Jazz Orchestra: Echoes Forward: The Living Lineage of Jazz From Ellington to Marsalis to This Very Instant

About

These two special sets will feature rare compositions and arrangements from the architects of jazz, demonstrating the intrinsic ties between the music in all of its forms, past and present, and how each compositional force within the idiom interacts with its predecessors. From figures like Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, Benny Carter, Dizzy Gillespie, and Mary Lou Williams to modern figures like Wynton Marsalis, whose artistry will be celebrated in commemoration of his final season with the JLCO, all have contributed to the rich tapestry of jazz. Join trombonist, composer, and bandleader Nick Mesler in celebrating these artists and more through rare premieres of his transcriptions, alongside his own compositions and arrangements that aim to further the music into “this very instant.”
