About
PLS NOTE: DOORS OPEN AT 5.30PM FOR A 6PM SHOWTIME (SHOW DURATION IS 6PM-7.40PM) Since the start of the 20th century there has been a rich tradition linking jazz and Broadway, with fantastic musicians such as Miles Davis reimagining popular hits from theatre composers like George Gershwin. However, in recent times this tradition has been lost with jazz falling away from the lush repertoire of modern musicals. To remedy this, arranger Toshi Clinch has selected songs from recent broadway shows, such as Wicked and Book of Mormon, and interpreted them to better fit the intimate aesthetics of the Paris Cat. The works will be performed by the Not-So-Big Band, an ensemble run by Clinch as a way to celebrate and showcase the up-and-coming talents of the Melbourne jazz scene, as well as giving them the experiences and connections they need to thrive as professional musicians. So book a seat and help rekindle the legacy of jazz and Broadway, and along the way you'll see why the NSBB has sold out hundreds of shows since it was formed back in 2018.
