About

Canadian vocalist/sax player Sandra-Mae Lux brings her stunning show “Celebrating the American Songbook – Old and New” to the Club! Branded a "Canadian jazz legend" by Petroc Trelawny on BBC Radio 3, Sandra-Mae makes a triumphant return to the 606 for this special London Jazz Festival night. An award-winning songwriter, vocalist and excellent saxophonist she was widely regarded as one of the most talented musicians of her generation in her native Canada. On moving to London she first made her mark with her debut album "Happily Ever Now" (2020) which explored jazz, funk, and soul grooves. However, in the last couple of years Sandra-Mae has gone back to her jazz roots, concentrating on her songwriting as well as performing, creating an outstanding album of new, contemporary, American Songbook style material, "Seasons in Jazz", which has received rave reviews. Packed full of swinging numbers bound to raise a smile, atmospheric ballads to bring a tear and everything in between, it's a delightful mix of jazz standards, old and new and perfect for this London Jazz Festival evening. Sandra’s live shows are a rarity, so don’t miss this opportunity to see this fantastic performer in this intimate setting. "This hugely impressive collection of original songs draws from the Great American Songbook tradition, with storytelling at its core.” Jazzwise “★★★★ Editor’s Choice; “Great lyrics, beautiful music, beautifully sung.” Radio 3; “Lux is clearly an artist with flash and flair” The Vancouver Sun; “Superb” JFSR Radio
