PLS NOTE: DOORS OPEN AT 5.30PM FOR A 6PM SHOW (SHOW DURATION IS 6PM-7.40PM) Lady Day and Pres: A Musical Romance. The Music of Billie Holiday and Lester Young Two of the greatest musicians of the 20th century, legendary singer Billie Holiday and tenor saxophonist Lester Young collaborated on a series of beloved recordings throughout the 1930s and 40s. Both cherished for their warm, unique sounds, the two shared a deep and enduring friendship along with their fruitful musical partnership. They lived together for a period in the mid 1930s as Lester Young was establishing himself as one of the top saxophonists of the day, and they each coined the other’s iconic nickname — Lester giving Billie the moniker “Lady Day”, and her dubbing him “Pres” (The President of the Saxophone) in return. Sensitively backed by the Caleb Wilson Trio, captivating Melbourne singer Camilla Burrows and tenor-man Tristan Meffre invoke the magic of Lady Day and Pres as they perform some of the classic tunes of the era.
