About

In the exclusive New York City concerts of the Miles Davis Estate’s official centenary celebration, 92NY presents two nights dedicated to two sides of the icon’s genius. The A Kind of Blue Band revisits the music of Kind of Blue, the massively influential bestselling jazz album of all time. The Miles Electric Band \(M.E.B.\) channels the irresistible energy and bold innovation of the electric era that followed. Both bands are peppered with musicians who worked directly with Miles, embody his vision, and bring it alive in this two-concert celebration of a cultural trailblazer. This first concert celebrates Miles’ acoustic years and is centered on Kind of Blue – the groundbreaking album widely regarded as the greatest jazz album ever recorded and one of the greatest albums of all time. The A-list band is anchored by the brilliant, gorgeous-toned trumpeter Eddie Henderson. Henderson’s artistry is strongly influenced by Miles, who he got to know as a teenager. The musicians – each connected to Miles’ legacy and lineage – also include saxophonists Javon Jackson and Donald Harrison, pianist Patrice Rushen, and bassist Buster Williams and drummer Lenny White, who both worked directly with Miles. The band gave sold-out performances of this music at SF Jazz in the spring, leaving critics and audiences ecstatic as they approached Kind of Blue as something living, bringing new ideas and Miles’ spirit of innovation to this masterpiece of modal jazz.
