About

Wanye (Wan) Williams is a Chicago-based jazz vibraphonist, drummer, and pianist who began his musical journey as a classical percussionist. In just a few years, he has quickly emerged as a promising young voice in jazz. Wanye has studied and performed through the Jazz Institute of Chicago, Ravinia Jazz Scholars, and the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz, sharing the stage with artists including Braxton Cook, Isaiah Collier, Terell Stafford, and Lisa Henry. His honors include the Kiewit-Wang Scholarship, selected as an ILMEA All-State Jazz musician in the 2023-2024 season, and featured as A Winner with Distinction for the YoungArts week Festival in Miami. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Jazz Showcase, New World Symphony Center, the Chicago Jazz Festival, and other renowned venues. A graduate of ChiArts, Wanye now studies at the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University, continuing to develop his sound while carrying forward his belief that jazz is very much alive.
