4 × j(A)zz! | Purple Muscle Car (AT)

About

Vienna quartet Purple Muscle Car, led by Hans Koller Prize winners Fabian Rucker (saxophone) and Philipp Nykrin (keys), combine fat synth bass, punchy drums and an airy horn duo into instrumental avant-garde pop somewhere between jazz, electronics and rock. With Alois Eberl (trombone) and Herbert Pirker (drums) completing the line-up, the band followed their first album with shows at Jazzfestival Saalfelden and Südtirol Jazzfestival, among others. In November 2026, they are releasing their second album, II, on Wave Breeder Records: eight new pieces, tighter and more direct, on which Rucker and Nykrin’s shared sound comes through more clearly than ever – raw, playful and full of energy.
