About
Saxophonist Paul Booth has toured the world as the featured sax player with the “Riverdance” show, worked with the likes of Eric Clapton and Matt Bianco and is currently a member of the Steve Winwood Band. Widely considered to be amongst the elite musicians on the UK scene tonight, as part of our long standing Cultural Exchange with the Budapest Jazz Club (BJC), he will be bringing his quartet to the Club alongside his Special Guest, the brilliant Hungarian saxophonist Zoltan Zana . An Award winning saxophonist (first prize at Magyar Rádió’s Dezső Ablakos Lakatos Saxophone Competition) over the last 20+ years Zoltan has established himself as one of Hungary’s most sought after saxophonists. His flowing, melodic and highly creative playing has been heard in an impressive variety of jazz ensembles, including as a regular member of Hungary’s leading big band, the internationally renowned Budapest Jazz Orchestra. Tonight Paul and Zoltan will be performing music from the jazz masters, including the likes of Joe Henderson, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter & Thelonius Monk, plus one or two originals in that same “hard-bop”, melodic style. “Blistering saxist” Independent; “Paul Booth…a delight” Daily Telegraph; “Booth...effortless...rich and warm of tone” Birmingham Post; “The country's finest tenor saxophonist Zoltan Zana is one of the most prominent practitioners of restrained, calm, thoughtful improvisation” Jazz.hu Presented in association with The Harmónia Műhely Alapítvány
