About

DEJA NU Deja Nu is an eight-piece Vancouver soul, funk, R&B and jazz fusion ensemble built around the She-Section Horns. Anchored by a Hammond B3 and a deep-pocket rhythm section, the band reimagines Motown and Philly soul alongside the seventies fusion of Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea and others. Out front is Chuck Johnson (vocals, guitar), who toured as guitarist with Grammy-nominated saxophonist Najee, sharing stages with Will Downing and Regina Belle. Caley Honeywell (saxophone, piano, vocals) leads the She-Section Horns and has played alongside Michael Bublé and Colin James; she's joined by Jocelyn Waugh (trumpet) and Janine King (trombone). Greg Wolfe (Hammond B3, vocals) leads a rhythm section of Michael Aihoshi (guitar, vocals), former guitarist for Canada's King of Soul George Olliver; Billy Mendoza (bass, vocals), who recorded with Harry Manx and opened for Eric Clapton; and John McCreath (drums, vocals). Expect tight horn arrangements and extended solos over hypnotic vamps.
