Amy K Bormet + JoVia Armstrong duo / Janelle Gill solo

NYU DC Abramson Family Auditorium in Washington, Downtown.

About

Amy K. Bormet grew up in D.C. and graduated from two of the city’s most venerable jazz programs: Duke Ellington School of the Arts and Howard University. Today, she is a celebrated pianist and composer, and a beloved mentor and community organizer through her annual Washington Women in Jazz Festival. Bormet joins percussionist, sound artist, and composer JoVia Armstrong. A member of the Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM), Armstrong relocated to Virginia last year after a storied career in Chicago, and has quickly become an established member of the wider DMV music community. Janelle Gill has been a cornerstone of the D.C. jazz scene for decades, most recently acting as artist in residence for the DC Jazz Festival. She is a highly emotive pianist whose lush playing embodies the impressionistic, colorful harmonies of modern jazz as well as the lyrical quality of the music’s foundational tradition. Here, Gill performs a rare solo set. Joshua Myers leads a post-show conversation with the artists.
