About

Los Angeles-based saxophonist and composer Aaron Shaw is a true trailblazer — a musician who has absorbed the influence of spiritual jazz masters like Pharoah Sanders and John Coltrane and emerged as an artist possessing a singular voice and a boundless perspective. Shaw cut his teeth at L.A. County High School of the Arts and has been a regular presence at Leimert Park’s hallowed jazz mecca The World Stage, coming under the tutelage of Kamasi Washington and earning accolades from Monterey Jazz Festival, the Charles Mingus Institute, and the Charles Dolo Coker Scholarship Foundation. Throughout his career, Shaw has collaborated with an extraordinary range of artists, including Herbie Hancock, André 3000, Anderson .Paak, Mary J. Blige, Usher, Shawn Mendes, Elijah Blake, Nate Mercereau, and Carlos Niño, with whom he received a GRAMMY nomination for his work on the producer and percussionist’s 2025 album Saul Williams Meets Carlos Niño & Friends at TreePeople . Most recently, Shaw released his highly anticipated debut album, And So It Is , produced in collaboration with Carlos Niño, further establishing him as one of the most compelling new voices in contemporary jazz. Pitchfork calls And So It Is “alternately desolate and joyful, serene and psychedelic... ...part astral journey and part inner reckoning, intent on blowing the cobwebs out of illness and grief’s dustiest corners.”
