The project focuses on finding common intersections of their cultural traditions—the emotive, melancholic Ladino (Judeo-Spanish) songs Ana selected from her family history, and the rich maqams and delicately woven melodies of Arabic music that Saied brings from his artistic tradition. Ana Silvera comes from a family of Sephardic Jews, and her work often links ancient tradition with expressions of contemporary songwriting. Saied Silbak was born in Shafaa’mr in the Lower Galilee in Palestine. His musical education combines Arab, Turkish, and Indian influences with elements of Western music.
