Fulton Street Collective presents a performance with EGO DOPPLER and NEXUS on Tuesday, October 27th at 7:30pm. The evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA Nexus is a contemporary jazz quintet based in Kalamazoo Michigan. The group formed at Western Michigan University with a common goal of blending ideas from the bebop and post bop jazz tradition with new and expressive original music. Taking inspiration from the likes of Andrew Hill, Cedar Walton, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, and more, Nexus has been performing both jazz standards and originals around the Midwest area for over a year. Ego Doppler is a 9-piece chamber pop band with a range of musical influences, primarily including elements of classical, jazz, and post-punk. Bandleader Matthew Wronski’s compositions include themes of heartbreak, resilience, and understanding the flurry of emotions that accompany bouncing back from difficult situations. Wronski explores through-composed pop/rock pieces honoring late 60s bands, with room for improvised solos and introspection.
