The DC Jazz Festival presents at Union Stage during the final afternoon of the festival’s programming on The Wharf, featuring a lineup of east coast musicians and ensembles. 2 p.m. Singer Shacara Rogers came up through Howard University’s music program, making her mark as a member of the signature vocal ensemble: Afro-Blue. She’s often recruited by bandleaders like Michael Bowie or Elijah Jamal Balbed for her versatility, able to sink into a ballad like Betty Carter or groove over the woozy sung hip-hop and R&B mix that dominates radio stations like WHUR or WPGC. She often leans into the latter sound as a bandleader but puts her full range of vocal abilities on the bandstand. 4:30 p.m. Band of Pulses is a Virginia-based experimental ensemble, led by flutist Elsa Nilsson. The group blends chamber music with avant-garde jazz. 6:30 p.m. Domas Zeromskas is a Boston-based pianist and composer whose repertoire fuses post-bop, gospel, Caribbean music and hymnals from his native Lithuania. 8:30 p.m. CapitalBop’s own, bassist Luke Stewart, is a force to be reckoned with in creative and other circles outside the jazz mainstream. He is constantly seeking ways to draw new sounds out of the upright bass, making it scream and squeal and march with power and precision but fluidity. He performs in a duo with percussionist, composer and sound artist JoVia Armstrong. A native of Detroit, her spiritual jazz-rooted artistry is heavily informed by Black musical traditions, particularly rhythm and storytelling. His Silt Trio features Chicago drummer Chad Taylor and D.C.-based tenor saxophonist Brian Settles. 10:30 p.m. Grupo Tempranillo performs contemporary interpretations of Latin jazz standards, led by percussionist and co-founder Felix Contreras.
