Tonight, saxophonist Richard Pavlidis presents a special tribute, featuring fresh new takes on this classic material. The concept of a ‘jazz standard’, the shared lexicon of musicians across languages and eras, would not exist without Porter’s timeless Tin Pan Alley tunes including Night & Day, Anything Goes, and I Get a Kick Out Of You. His tunes have been recorded by every jazz musician you could mention, and remain expected knowledge at jam sessions the world over. A Victorian College of the Arts graduate, Richard Pavlidis has released three acclaimed solo albums. Major US publication All About Jazz calls his playing ‘bright, powerful and engaging’, and The Australian has called him a ‘saxophone colossus in the making’.
