Vocalist Musiq Soulchild came onto the R&B scene with the release of his debut album, Aijuswanaseing , helping to define the neo-soul movement of the early 2000s. Hailing from Philadelphia, his music blends the city’s signature soul sound with a range of Black music styles, including jazz, blues, funk, gospel and hip-hop. He cites heavy influence from ‘70s soul legends like Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye, and is noted for his warm tonal quality and smooth, emotive storytelling.
