About
Founded in 2022, the Barnabás Négyessy Quartet has an open and diverse sound: stylistic elements from jazz, rock, classical music and folk music all shape the musical thinking of this young band. Their aim is to present a constantly evolving concert programme that offers an insight into their shared musical explorations. In their concerts, the members’ musical freedom and equality play a particularly prominent role: improvisational sections linked to the main musical themes are an integral part of the quartet’s message, whilst actively involving the audience in the musical process. Their pieces are often longer-form compositions in which soft, melancholic moods give way to dynamic, intense passages. They are now developing these compositions further in collaboration with János Ávéd, placing the interplay between guitar and saxophone at the forefront. The programme was inspired by the work of bands such as the Kurt Rosenwinkel Group, Human Feel, Reinier Baas and Ben Van Gelder, and Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band. Last year, the bandleader recorded his degree project at the Kunstu
