Swiss-born, New York-based saxophonist Maria Grand is a singular voice in contemporary jazz. Grand burst on the scene in 2017 and hasn’t slowed down since, with a half-dozen records and constant tours worldwide. Her most recent offering, 2026’s Both Sides , finds Grand at her most daring, consisting of two takes of the same tunes approached with distinct groups and approaches. Here, Grand visits Rhizome alongside longtime collaborator, Philadelphia-born percussionist Shakoor Hakeem. Baltimore-based polymath and drummer Bashi Rose – known for his work with the Konjur Collective – opens.
