Fulton Street Collective welcomes DIEGO RODRIGUEZ BIG BAND for an in-person only performance on Thursday, November 12th at 7:30pm. The evening will feature live painting from visual artist TBA The Diego Rodriguez Big Band (DRBB) is a Chicago-based, 19-piece contemporary jazz ensemble dedicated to honoring the legacy of Black American Music while exploring its continued evolution. Founded by drummer and bandleader Diego Rodriguez, the ensemble – which made its debut in December 2022 – brings together a collective of young musicians united by a shared passion for jazz and keeping the tradition alive. Drawing from Post-Bop, R&B, and Latin influences, the DRBB presents a repertoire of original compositions and distinctive arrangements that reflect both the individuality of its members and a collective musical vision. The ensemble has performed at notable venues throughout the Chicagoland area, including the Jazz Showcase, Andy’s Jazz Club, Fulton Street Collective, Epiphany Center for the Arts, and Elmhurst Hall, along with festival appearances at the St. Charles Jazz Weekend, OQMS Jazz Festival, and Chicagoland Classic. The DRBB has also featured guest performers including Steve Wilson, Marques Carroll, Jeremy Kahn, Kevin King, Abigail Riccards, Victor Garcia, Tom Garling, and Kellin Hanas. At the heart of the group is a strong sense of community and collaboration. The DRBB balances the power and energy of a full band with the sensitivity and spontaneity of a small ensemble, creating space for expression while still maintaining a cohesive musical identity. Beyond the bandstand, the ensemble is committed to inspiring the next generation of musicians through educational outreach and school performances, sharing an appreciation for the musical tradition while contributing directly to its future. This concert is a fundraising performance supporting the Diego Rodriguez Big Band’s Guest Artist Concert Series, with proceeds helping fund future collaborations with nationally and internationally recognized guest artists.
