Ellington is considered one of the best jazz composers of all time, and had a career that stretched multiple decades. His big band had the least personnel changes out of all the major big bands of the era, which is a testament to Ellington's ability to lead and his value on the individuals within the band. In addition Ellington composed over 1000 original compositions with many going on to become jazz standards that are still played regularly to this day. The Paris Cat Big Band was formed at the beginning of 2019 by local bassist and arranger Toshi Clinch in conjunction with the Paris Cat Jazz Club. The band is comprised of some of the finest musicians in Melbourne and performs on the second Sunday of every month. Each month is a unique show that features fantastic big band compositions and arrangements by well known jazz artists.
